On Ginny in DH

suggests a very different sort of relationship from Ron/Hermione or Molly/Arthur,

Well, yes, that's sort of what I was trying to say. R/Hr and M/A have been in much longer relationships (although R/Hr aren't romantic until the end of DH, they are still in a very close relationship for years before). H/G are just beginning - there's a totally different dynamic.

When the issue of Ginny leaving Hogwarts first comes up, it's her mother ordering her to leave. She turns to Harry for support and he refuses to give it. That's very different from ordering her. When he tells her to leave the RoR and then to come back, she runs out of there and we know she didn't come back.

I would not take one incident ocurring in extraordinary circumstances in a still developing relationship as indicative of a pattern or "shallowness" or that Harry doesn't respect Ginny.

I couldn't agree more. How childish would it have seemed if Ginny had thrown a prolonged fit about joining the fight in the middle of such a tense time? I think it would be very difficult (and pretty useless) to try to fight against her parents, her oldest brother and her boyfriend. She just didn't press the issue, but took her opportunity when she saw it. I think this will be a learning opportunity for Harry regarding Ginny's abilities and personality. I also can't fault Harry for wanting to protect her. Harry has lost so many people already, not to mention how many times he's NEARLY lost Ron and Hermione. Many of the "haters" whang on and on about how H/G never said "love" and that they didn't have true love, etc., but what they fail to consider is that H/G were just beginning their journey together at the time of DH. I don't think Harry (consciously) truly realized how deep his feelings were for Ginny, but we were shown many times in the text by his words and actions that he really cared for her and was, in fact, falling in love. I don't think the relationship they had at 17/18 (and at such a wierd, stressful time) was exactly the same as the one they have by the time they decide to marry. They're both still maturing and still really getting to know each other, warts and all.

I don't know why JKR didn't give Luna or Ginny a "moment in the sun" like she did for Neville, maybe she thought it would be too cliche or something. *shrugs* I would have definitely loved to see Ginny and Luna get to show their stuff. All I know is that these books weren't "The Love Story of Harry and Ginny," and I never expected them to be. I'm very satisfied with how they turned out, and for my shipper heart, I was so thrilled by how often Harry's feelings for Ginny were expressly shown.

Yes, isn't it ironic how all the haters like to wank on and on about how JKR told rather than showed, and yet in the case of H/G's relationship, she did a whole heck of a lot of showing. And the haters just refuse to see it. She can't win for trying, can she?

Yep, I know someone who wasn't a huge fan of Ginny in HBP say they loved Ginny in DH because she seemed to mature a lot. They were very impressed with her in the RoR scene and how she didn't throw a tantrum when her family told her she couldn't fight. She snuck off when she got a chance, but she didn't argue it. That showed great maturity and I was happy to see someone else think so who previously didn't like Ginny much.

Also, I agree with others who said Harry didn't order her to stay; he was agreeing with her parents. He did ask her to come back in the RoR after they were done finding the Ravenclaw horcrux, but this is where Ginny completely ignored him - showing that while she knew she shouldn't throw a fit at the beginning, she wasn't going to just sit and twiddle her thumbs. Bravo, Ginny.

And yeah, anyone who thinks Harry didn't love Ginny in DH didn't read the same book I did. All of Harry's thoughts and actions about her completely tugged at my heartstrings, especially the moments he stared at her name on the Marauders Map. That and Ron screaming for Hermione in Malfoy Manor were ten times better than cheesy declarations of love.

YES! Thank you for this. Harry never ORDERS Ginny to do anything, and thinking that he does is just another one of those horrible misinterpretations that haters like to spew all the time.

But, to turn this back more to Ginny, one of the things I love about that moment is that she argues with her family but when Harry shakes his head she accepts it, just like she accepted the break-up. To me that is another example of the amazing, instinctive understanding between the two of them, and is absolutely one of Ginny's finest moments in the series. Trying to twist that scene into an example of how Harry and Ginny are NOT equals is ridiculous, in my opinion.

Well its been a while but I think now is as good as time as any to talk about the Youngest of the Weasley 7 Grin

Now as much as I hate to quote people from other places, I just found this remark rather priceless as well as informative as to the miindset of HATERS:

Quote
Who else other than Harry and Ginny have been hurt/demeaned/insulted by the pairing?

I've always said Dean, ...

Maybe Luna, too. I think once Harry considered Luna a friend, Ginny was patronizing to Luna so Ginny would look noble, but of course I can't prove that.

As to how the relationship with Dean can be taken, I seriously doubt Ginny ever used him as is asserted in the "..." part of this post from elsewhere. Yet that's not what I'm on about tonight, its the part about Luna, being patronizing to her because she became a friend to Harry. The key point is of course that the LOON in question can't prove it. Yeah I know it must be frustrating for her as the written text, canon if you will, is in direct contradiction to that idea. Ginny knows Luna because they are the same year, thus why Ginny introduces Harry and Neville to her. Later when the trio need a diversion, OOTP here, Ginny and Luna interrupt together and help out, then in HBP we hear and are shown Ginny stopping people from calling Luna "Loony", we are again shown Luna saying how much she likes Ginny in a Quidditch match for the entire school no less and if that doesn't beat all, when Harry asks Luna to Slughorn's party, we hear from Ginny how excited Luna is to go. Yes, Ginny looks so noble in her "patronizing" of Luna, the canon certainly helps prove that that assertion Roll Eyes is one of the dumbest that can possibly be made about the relationship between Ginny and Luna Lovegood.

Luna?! Are they reading the same books? Ginny was Luna's friend before anyone else in the sextet was, so they're definitely reading different books.

Luna would be so happy for Harry and Ginny. I can't even imagine her being upset or angry by their pairing. I have no doubt she was touched when they named their daughter after her, too.

*shakes head* I just don't understand such blatant misunderstanding of the books.
