HBP reactions
« on: July 17, 2009, 11:31:09 AM »

I decided to stop by here today and see what folks are saying about HBP.  Imagine my surprise that no topic had even been started yet! Huh? So here I am, blowing the dust off of the forum and getting the ball rolling.

For me the main thing that I can not get out of my head after a first viewing is how fantastic Tom Felton was in this.  I never had an emotional reaction to Draco's storyline in the book and was pleasantly surprised at how compelling they made it in the movie.

So, who's next?  Post some thoughts, folks!

 Run Away!

Well, I really liked HBP, even the final scene.Dunno if we have a spoiler tag so I won't say too much on it other than I really liked it.  I agree Felton did a good job as Malfoy this time around, especially considering Malfoy's part in all of it. I really though Gambon finally was Dumbledore, I hadn't been impressed with him until HBP and the guy playing Slughorn, brilliant!

Finally, LOL even in flats Bonnie is taller than Dan  Evil

Nope, no spoiler tags around here, but honestly, I figure that everyone's read the book and they've had time to see the movie by now and if they haven't yet, they can avoid the movie forum if it's that important. Because we have SO many people posting anyway. Tongue

Yeah, I liked the movie. I have to admit I'm not a real big fan of them. So far they've all been either OK or horrible *cough*POA*cough*

I liked that HBP was funny. There were many great laughs. I liked that Harry and Ron came across as normal boys. I liked that Ron, especially, came across as more his usual canon self, rather than the comic bumbler we've seen in past films. I didn't mind how they changed the H/G. It was definitely there from the beginning of the movie. I thought Bellatrix and her love or wanton mayhem was a hoot.

I wasn't all that keen on the ending scene, because of they way it treated Ron. For the first couple of minutes you don't even know he's there, and then when the camera brings him into the shot, he's sort of staring off into space rather than taking part in an important conversation about serious matters. I also thought the line about "Oh, BTW, Ron's OK with you snogging Ginny now" was out of left field given how they'd been discussing the Horcrux hunt up to now.

Anyone else notice how all three of the trio got high at some point during the movie? Ron on the love potion, Harry on Felix Felicis and Hermione was drunk on Butterbeer.

Grin Grin Grin

Harry on Felix was the funniest part of the movie.  All of the movies have had those touches of humour that JKR is so good at, but I think HBP was the first time it was LOLZ! funny.

I noticed that there was some wankiness in the harry_and_ginny commat LJ, and it really kind of surprised me.  We've known for a while now that the H/G kiss was going to be a more quiet and private event than it was in the books, so why are people griping about it still?  Yeah, the Ron/Lav kiss was more like H/G in the book, but what of it?  How many times does it need to be repeated - The movies are not the books!  You either appreciate the movies for what they are - based on, but seperate and independent from, the books - or you don't. Rant

But I bet the anti-H/G crowd pissed themselves in glee, since the movie gave them That HOR Ginny kissed Harry!  How dare she?!?!?!, as opposed to

Damn, I hate it when canon gets in the way of my beloved delusions!

Yeah, the Ron/Lav kiss was more like H/G in the book, but what of it?

The public nature of the R/L kiss didn't bother me at all. They were pretty damned public in the book. What was the line? Something about not being able to tell whose hands were whose?

Now that you mention it, LOL Hermione buzzed was kind of funny and Hermione's line, "What if Ginny saw you snogging me?" LOL

Since we're forgoing spoilers, I really liked the Ginny offering Harry cakes scene at the Burrow and Ron then just butting in, LOL

Harry on FF was pretty funny, but Ron on the Love Potion, FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY! Oh and the hospital scene, Lots of LOLs overall

The cave scene, eerie as heck and Dumbledore's death and Harry crying in Ginny's arms, awesome scene.

I just saw it today. Had to wait to get to a show in English (would have died rather than see it in Spanish  Headwall) All in all I liked it, though, even if I was warned, the Tonks comment about Remus on the first day of the cycle killed me. Ugh. All in all the dropped ball with that storyline bothered me, even if I was expecting it. And not even a mention of Bill. It's like the oldest Weasley is Percy!

The shoelace thing was kind of weird, was it not? And the ending - I dunno, kind of bothered me. Ron needed some lines, or something! Also, I missed a few Harry/DD lines. And, the scene in the Three Broomsticks, I kind of expected Harry to be a bit more bothered by the fact that Ginny was snogging Dean!

All in all, I did like the movie, though. Hermione was not annoying, for the first time.

Not so, Charlie got a mention in Sorcerer's Stone and Bill got a mention in PoA I think...

I think people are reading too much into the shoelace thing, I mean I'm a guy, and we guys are all pervs  Grin, and it didn't really register that way with me at all. I can understand the thing about Dean and Ginny though and also about Emma as Hermione too  :chicken:

Cheers

::hugs Nate:: Don't feel like an arse.  Tongue

And, admit it, the shoelace thing IS weird. Though a kiss there would have been hotter than the one we got. And wasn't it weird that Ginny managed to egt through the fire when Remus didn't? And why the hell they didn't destroy the Burrow? That didn't make sense?

I still would have liked to see Bill. Hmpf.  Undecided

The shoelace thing, it was a bit random sure, but it didn't bug me like it did y'all apparently...

As to Bill, well as he hasn't made an appearance yet...
