OotP: What did you think?

OotP: What did you think?
« on: September 10, 2007, 02:34:50 PM »

Well, it's a little while back now, but I'm sure we'll all have an opinion on this nonetheless...  What did everyone think about the movie version of OotP?  Was the direction good, were you happy with the casting?  How did it rank against others in the series?

I know OotP is most everyone's favorite but I don't know why. Maybe it's because i saw it the day before the book came out when I was very,  very tired, but the movie just bored me. I wasn't interested in it at all. The casting was fine, and they didn't butcher up the plot and characters like they have been known to do but it was just a mediocre experience for me.

I much prefered GoF but I didn't love that one either...

Eh, it was okay. It was such a long book there really wasn't a way to get everything in. I would have liked if they'd kept a few scenes, but overall it wasn't awful. Casting was good. The girl who played Luna was perfect, or so I thought. I was happy with the casting for Cho, too.

I was a bit disturbed at the way they choose to portray Cho. I don't think they needed to. But then again, I'm upset away the way the movies have portrayed a lot of characters, so I can't say much about that. I felt everything with Sirius was a little rushed, and those tattoos and the lack of explanation keep bothering me almost as much as the whole mustache on Remus does.

But all in all, it wasn't bad. Granted, I've only seen it once, so I might be forgetting a few things, but it could have been worse.  Tongue

I liked OotP simply because Neville roxed my sox in it.

I've been crushing on Neville since the movie, and then the book.

... I hate Cho. I hate her in the books, I hate her in the movies. However, I love Luna in the books AND the movies.

So, yeah. I liked the movie because of Neville, Luna, Bellatrix, and even Umbridge (when you can make a grown woman cower in her seat at the prospect of Umbridge teaching, I think you win). I still like PoA as a film, best, but this one came close to being a good movie.

I saw it twice in the theater but only because I had a free ticket for one of those times.  I had hoped OotP would be the HP movie that I'd finally buy on DVD but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.  I felt the pacing and editing was better than it was for GoF but some of the acting was pretty bad and Evanna Lynch's voice is too annoying to be in my house.
