Hi all.
I'm delighted to see the Tower is getting rebuilt brick by brick, stone by stone. The original Gryffindor Tower was the first site where I ever attempted to post fanfic (Under the name "struwwelfranz." They weren't much. Just a couple short additions to Ashwinder's story Ginny's Gift, which it didn't need.) That seems like ages ago, although it's only been five years.
I've since written a novel-length story of my own, which went up on Sugar Quill and Sink Into Your Eyes in installments. "Harry Potter and the Staff of Serpents." Harry's Sixth year, so of course it's AU; in fact I didn't finish it until a few months after the release of Dealthy Hallows.

Now that the canonical books are all out, I've been wondering whether HP fanfic will retain much interest either for readers or writers. It seems to me that most of the best fics were written after GoF (and a few after OotP), and that more people were reading them back then. Could it be fandom had enough knowledge from books 1-4 to imagine what should happen next, and enough empty space before JK Rowling wrote books 5, 6, and 7 to fill it?
Well, we shall see I suppose.
